Solving Problems with Drupal 8 in 2018

At some point, every enterprise org has a “Java app for that” phase. After nearly a decade of development, our company had a lot of Java applications doing variations of the same thing.

Together with a team of developers, I replaced 40 of them with a single Drupal 8 site for managing time-off requests.

Java, we hardly knew ye.

Time Off Request and Tracking System

Built with:
Drupal 8, PHP, custom modules, MySQL, external system integrations

My work:

This Drupal app was featured as a Case Study in the Drupal.org Community Showcase (opens in new tab).

As the Drupal site and server administrator, I handled site building, theming, custom module development, integrations with external systems, legacy data migration and UX/UI design.

The system replaced 40 separate Java applications by consolidating an overly complex time-off request process into a single Drupal application used by 2,000+ users.

Forty Java apps, politely merged into one Drupal system.
